and expect to be able to watch my movies on a big screen TV. It's not like I would walk into a Internet Cafe, Library, School etc. IMO the idea of a completely and truly portable MediaCenter is not really necessary, in so far as not leaving anything behind. (I'm thinking as I type so bear with me).
As for SW dependencies, these would not really be an issue either. In fact, almost any modern PC will surpass the HW requirements. Both of my PC's (and all my Friends PC's) fit the HW bill no problem. The HW dependencies on any machine where you would want to watch a movie, really should be a non-issue. Except for the TV Card req's, which IMHO TV would not be necessary in a portable version. I know that your probably right *hangs head in sorrow*.
